Dancers' COVID-19 Research Study

Dear Dancer

You have been chosen to participate in a study evaluating the impact of COVID-19 on dancers' physical, mental, and emotional health.  This survey initiated by the Ballets de Monte-Carlo examines the effects of the actual illness, if relevant, as well as the more general professional climate since the beginning of the pandemic.  It is important that you understand why this research is being performed and what will be required of you before you decide to participate.  Below, the participant information description contains further information detailing the purpose, methods, and selection process for the study, and you are invited to read it to learn more.

If you decide to participate, it should take about 10 to 20 minutes to fill out the questionnaire. We ask that you check the box "I agree" in response to the consent statement below before you complete the survey.

Participant information description

We are currently conducting a study to assess the experience of dancers during COVID-19 pandemic from December 2019 through June 2022. For this, we are looking for dancers from international Companies and pre-professional trainee programme aged 18 or over.

If you meet these criteria, please be aware that the questionnaire is completely anonymous, you cannot withdraw from the project at a later date as we are unable to identify your questionnaire from the others. Be aware that we will give a general feedback to all in the dance field, in other words there will have no possibility to identify your personal answers from others. So, feel free to give an honest feedback without fear of negative spin-off. However, please, do not provide any information that would allow us to identify you or any affiliated institutions. This search will only take you a few minutes (20 min approximately). It consists in filling in a short questionnaire aimed at measuring the incidence of physical symptoms, mental and social health concerns and the impact of acute and persistent effects on dancers and dancers’ lives. It includes dancers who contracted the illness and were symptomatic, those who were asymptomatic, and those who did not contract COVID-19.

You have been invited to participate as you were listed as a member of an eminent Company or as a pre-professional dancer involved in a trainee programme prior to December 2019. We recognize that your situation may have changed and we are very interested in the impetus for change and the effects of COVID-19 on your social, physical and emotional states to understand what you have experienced and what needs you expect to have in the post-COVID-19 period.

Thanks to your participation, we will be able to understand the persistent effects of the physical, social, and emotional stressors on the dancers affected by the pandemic, but there is no personal follow up or benefit from having taken the survey.

Thank you for your participation.

There are 77 questions in this survey.
This survey is anonymous.

The record of your survey responses does not contain any identifying information about you, unless a specific survey question explicitly asked for it.

If you used an identifying token to access this survey, please rest assured that this token will not be stored together with your responses. It is managed in a separate database and will only be updated to indicate whether you did (or did not) complete this survey. There is no way of matching identification tokens with survey responses.

Your rights to withdraw from research at any time

Your participation to this research is voluntary. You can stop participating in the questionnaire at any time and your decision to refuse to participate or even to cease your participation will have no impact.

Your rights to confidentiality and respect for private life

All information you provide will be treated as confidential. No data allowing your identification will be collected. Be aware that we will give a general feedback to all the dance field, that is to say there will be no possibility to identify your personal answers from others. So, feel free to give an honest feedback without fear of negative spin-off. Nevertheless, please do not provide any information that would allow us to identify you or any affiliated institutions. After finalizing your participation in the study, you will no longer be able to exercise your rights of withdrawal, modification, or consultation. All data will be archived in a secure place within LAMHESS and only the scientific manager and associated researchers will have access to it.

Benefit

This study will improve our scientific knowledge because there is no study on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of life and performances of dancers yet.

Possible risks

Participation in this survey contains minimal risks. This survey treats the psychological and physical impacts of COVID-19, subjects that might be slightly uncomfortable for respondents.  Participation in the survey is voluntary, and almost all questions can be skipped.  Efforts have been made to treat the subjects in a gentle but clear manner, but the respondents might find reflection on these issues to be distressing.

Dissemination

Conferences might come first, then this research will be disseminated as a scientific article: it will be published in conference proceedings and academic journal articles.

Your rights to ask questions at all times

You can ask questions about the research at any time by contacting the project scientist by email at serge.colson@univ-cotedazur.fr

Consent to participation

If you do not want to participate in this study, do not fill the questionnaire.

Or, by accepting  to participate to this study, you accept all the following items:
